For 90 years MacHale Park has been a constant centre for Gaelic Games in Mayo. The first competitive games in the ground took place on March 22nd 1931, construction having cost 1700 pounds. The ground has had many facelifts since, the most significant occurring between 1950 and 1952 when capacity was increased to 40,000 and
